Paso Robles winery earns honors in consecutive Sunset competitions
Three wines received double gold medals and 97- or 98-point scores
– McPrice Myers Wines, an Adelaida District winery specializing in Rhône-style and estate red wines, received double gold medals, Best of Class distinctions, and scores of up to 98 points in two consecutive Sunset International Wine Competitions.
Sunset Magazine holds the annual competition, which includes producers from across the western United States. A panel of wine professionals, including master sommeliers, winemakers, educators, wine buyers, and journalists, evaluates entries through blind tastings.
“These wines represent everything we set out to do at McPrice Myers Wines, capturing the character of our Paso Robles fruit while staying true to the Rhône varieties we love,” founder and winemaker McPrice “Mac” Myers said in a press release. “To see the Beautiful Earth wines recognized at this level, year after year, tells us we’re on the right track.”
The winery’s 2023 Beautiful Earth Cabernet Sauvignon received 98 points, a double gold medal, and Best of Class in the 2026 competition.
The 2023 Beautiful Earth Red, the winery’s signature red blend, received 97 points and a double gold medal in the 2026 competition.
The 2023 High on the Hog Red Blend received 98 points, a double gold medal, and Best of Class in the 2025 competition. Judges called it “very lush and complete, [with a] long finish.”
According to Myers, the 2023 High on the Hog Red Blend represents “a wine you can drink for any occasion – the highest quality at a $20 price point.”
The 2023 Beautiful Earth Cabernet Sauvignon and Beautiful Earth Red belong to the winery’s Beautiful Earth series, which the winery launched in 2005 with a Terra Bella Vineyard Syrah.
“Every year, the Sunset International Wine & Spirits Competition gives us a chance to celebrate the producers who are defining what we drink now—and what we’ll be excited to discover next,” Sunset Editor-in-Chief Hugh Garvey said. “This year’s top winners say a lot about where taste is heading…Sunset is proud to champion the wineries, distilleries, and makers who bring so much innovation, pleasure, and sense of place to the table. We heartily congratulate this year’s winners.”
The wines are available for tasting at the McPrice Myers Wines estate in the Adelaida District, at select regional locations, and online at McPriceMyers.com.
