Paso Robles Planning Commission member Steve Gregory announced last week that he is running for one of the two open Paso Robles City Council seats being contested in November’s election.

He has served 5-1/2 years on the planning commission, including posts as chairman and vice-chairman, and served on the Development Review Committee, a sub-committee of the commission.

Gregory, 62, is a project design consultant. He developed Sycamore Mineral Springs in Avila Beach, which was later sold to developer John King in 2003. “Running a small consulting management business for the last 10 years and assisting my wife Dawn with her restaurant, Odyssey World Café, makes me aware of small business needs,” says Gregory.

He is a naturalized U.S. citizen, born in Argentina and raised in the Southern California cities of Arcadia and Pasadena. He moved to Paso Robles in 1979. He is a member of the Paso Robles Rotary Club.

He is campaigning for more transparency in city government, to restore city services and promote economic development. He spells out his platform as follows:

Transparency

  • More outreach about grants received and proposed projects by the city.
  • Free voice recordings of the City Council meetings.
  • Easier access to all information for the Staff and the Public through available technologies.

Return of services

  • Bring back Centennial pool for the public use during the summer.
  • Continue to fix the roads and write grants for our roadways.
  • Work on fee structures for better affordability of facility and field uses.
  • Return as many services as possible through creativity and budgeting.

Economic development

  • Continue to maintain an “open arms policy” to meet with and attract new businesses to come to Paso Robles.
  • Take care of our existing businesses by reaching out and assisting those businesses and companies that are here.
  • And be more proactive to prevent unnecessary delays in processing for all projects going through the approval process.

Gregory, Mayor Duane Picanco, and Councilman John Hamon are competing for two open city council seats in the November election.
