    fire in riverbed

A vegetation fire burned Thursday evening in the Salinas Riverbed just south of the 13th Street bridge. Smoke filled the air around the downtown and over Highway 101. Paso Robles firefighters responded at 6:07 p.m. First arriving firefighters found a wind-driven brush fire burning in the riverbed towards 13th Street, north up the riverbed.

The firefighters kept the fire in the riverbed and got it under control quickly. The fire was contained to one acre at about 7:20 p.m. after several spot fires in front of the main fire were extinguished. No structures were damaged by the fire. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

A portion of River Road between 13th and Niblick streets was closed from about 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Firefighters remained at the scene conducting mop-up operations for the majority of the night. A total of 23 firefighters from the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services, CalFire/SLO County Fire Department, and Templeton Fire
    Department responded to the incident.

The firemen as usual did a GREAT job..they really are good at their job. My daughter lives close and we watch as the flames "licked" up those trees and dry brush. They put it out amazingly quick and THANK ALL of the firefighters who do their job so well.

Shelly, please tell them the Salvation Army does a food giveaway on the FOURTH Friday of each month (except November and December) This month it is Friday, September 26th. In November and December other provisions are made for the people in need. No one is turned away.
