Local online company has great start
Specializing in contemporary, country rustic clothing, footwear and accessories for women, Burlap Clothing Co. began in April as an online business. Owned by Paso Robles residents Shelly Dargatz, her son Brandon Stier and his girlfriend Kaila Hursell — both 2005 graduates of Paso Robles High School — the company ships worldwide, with free shipping within the United States.

The company’s first order, Stier said, was to Australia and nearly every transaction, so far, is conducted online. In addition to its website, the business utilizes social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Wanelo. The only offline event the store has participated in is the California Mid-State Fair, which Stier said was an overwhelming success.
“It was the first time we ever did a booth,” Stier said. “We did very, very well there. … We almost sold out of our inventory.” He added that he has already signed up for a booth for the 2015 fair that is twice the size of the one they had this year.
Stier said that what sets their business apart are the prices and style of clothing. Stier, Dargatz and Hursell all play a hand in choosing the items that the company sells. The team anticipates taking about six to eight trips a year to the Los Angeles Fashion District to meet with thousands of vendors. Over its five months of business, Burlap Clothing Co. already has exclusive pieces from some vendors — one vendor, Stier said, has created tops in custom colors, with Burlap Clothing Co. being the exclusive vendor. Down the line, he said, their goal is to create their own designs.
The company, Stier said, was the brainchild of Hursell who had intentions of buy a clothing boutique. Stier, who has been in retail for 14 years, said they came up with a plan to create their own business.

“It was no big deal to me to start a business,” Stier said. “I never saw myself selling women’s clothing.”
All of the photos showcasing clothing and accessories on the Burlap Clothing Co. website are taken in and around Paso Robles, with locations used including downtown Paso Robles and Templeton, Paso back roads and local wineries. Stier said the names of some of the items are drawn from the Central Coast to showcase their roots in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo County.
Though the business will remain online for the time being, its overwhelming success as an online business has the team looking for storefronts in downtown Paso Robles and downtown San Luis Obispo. While Stier thinks that it will take longer to find the right storefront in SLO — he wants a place on Higuera Street — the brick and mortar store in Paso Robles could be open by the beginning of 2015.
“When we get into a storefront, our customers aren’t paying our rent,” Stier said, emphasizing that prices will not increase, with store prices and online prices remaining the same. “A lot of people will drive all the way to San Luis Obispo — we want to keep them local.”

So proud of you guys!!! Keep it up!
WOW!! That's awesome.
Oh wow, I didn't realize. I was always under the impression that Sarah was the "brainchild" of this boutique. My bad.
Nope that would be Virginia Fields your bad….
Sarah? Wasnt that the chick that cheated on her husband with his boss?!?!?! Not sure I would really want to see any "brainchild" of hers!!
Its interesting how this quickly escalated to a personal attack, and on a public podium takes some nerve – you must really know what you're talking about to make such a bold statement about someone you dont even know, Nikole. If it helps the owner of this store sleep at night – convincing himself that his wife cheated and thats why the marriage didnt work out, then so be it. Ignorance is bliss.
Well my goodness! It seems that everyone has an opinion on this so called “New Business“. Unless your truly involved with what has been happening in these peoples lives for the last several years it would be of best interest to keep what you may think you know to yourself “ Nikole Kepins”. Have you ever heard of the word “Slander”! Sarah is my daughter. She was the “Brainchild” behind “Virginia Fields” she worked her rear off to make that company what it was. She gave Virginia Fields to her soon to be ex husband ( one of owners of The Burlap Clothing Co.) upon her departure from their marriage because of issues surrounding her ex husband and a problem he had with borrowing money from people for his own business that never became anything and those people began looking at Virginia Fields as where the money went where in fact it did not. To this day they are still looking for him. As for cheating on her husband with his Boss, that again is a lie concocted by her ex husband. First they worked in 2 different departments her was not his Boss. All my daughter did was talk to a friend she had since grade school, because she had for years not received any real quality attention from her ex husband. When things like that happen within a marriage feelings for another can occur. However, let me state that it was my daughters soon to be ex husband that started up a relationship and moved in with his now girlfriend months before my daughter struck up a conversation with her now fiancé. She had not talked to this person in over a year prior to her leaving. So for anyone else that may want to falsely accuse my daughter of anything, or tell handed down lies about her instead of doing it on this New Businesses Newspapers report call me at 559-375-0333.
Has the store closed? I have credit I've been trying to use and the web page is no longer availalbe and my Facebook and Instagram messages have gone unanswered. I can't find any information anywhere.
