Veteran’s Administration awards $6 million for homeless in SLO County

Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Inc. (CAPSLO) was awarded $4.9 million. Working with America’s Job Center (formerly the OneStop), the Veteran’s Services Office, and ECHO (El Camino Homeless Organization), CAPSLO’s SSVF project will provide employment development services, assistance finding and maintaining stable housing, and other support services that promote self-sufficiency.
CAPSLO CEO Elizabeth “Biz” Steinberg explained, “San Luis Obispo County was identified as one of 76 counties throughout the nation where the need for SSVF services was critical. We are looking forward to working with our community partners to help veterans and their families toward the secure, brighter future that they deserve.”
With a grant of $1.1 million, Good Samaritan Services will work in partnership with 5Cities Homeless Coalition to provide homeless prevention and rapid rehousing services for homeless veterans and their families in Southern San Luis Obispo County. Through the newly formed partnership, Good Samaritan Services with 5 Cities Homeless Coalition will work to temporarily shelter homeless individuals and families into Good Samaritan’s shelter operations while providing case management and direct financial assistance to enable them to transition out of homelessness.
“Good Samaritan Services is very excited to be the recipient of the SSVF Grant to serve veterans in Southern San Luis Obispo County,” noted Sylvia Barnard, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Services. “We have been working with the Veteran’s Administration for the past four years. Being able to help homeless veterans get into a home strongly supports our mission and partnership with both the VA and 5Cities Homeless Coalition.”
“The 5Cities Homeless Coalition is pleased to join as a partner with Good Samaritan in providing supportive services to homeless veterans in Southern San Luis Obispo County,” notes Shelly Higginbotham, Board President of the 5Cities Homeless Coalition. “We are very grateful for the resources and support of the Veteran’s Administration in recognizing this significant issue in our community.”
This is awful news. CAPSLO are the same group of who recently raised
$8000+ through parking meters, supposedly for their own clients…Who
never saw a dime. Now they have $4-million from which to deny their
own clients one dollar of advancement or decent meals.
The residents of the Maxine Lewis shelter will hate this.
I know that first-hand.
My name is James Outland Jr and I would like to do more to help our community. I need your help to do it. If you have a home to sell and would like to talk about supporting a local charity you care about please let me know. Together we can do more. If you know anyone looking to sell a home please pass this on so we can talk with them about what we can do together to help support a local community. Together we can make our community a better place. Please visit my blog page and share http://jamesoutland.net/helping-our-community/
