Liberty High School students adopt a street for clean-up
As of September, the area of Niblick Road between Appaloosa Drive and Creston Road has a fierce new caretaker—the Sharks of Liberty Continuation High School. The school’s Associated Student Body adopted the street through the Paso Robles Adopt-a-Street program.
Kristin Guess, the student leadership staff advisor said, “I was driving on Niblick last summer and noticed that the city’s Adopt-a-Street sign was available. I immediately submitted an application for Liberty because it seemed like such a convenient and fun way for my students to learn about city beautification and recycling and to promote community involvement.”
The Adopt-a-Street program requires a once a month commitment for one year. Six students participated in the first street cleanup on September 25, collecting three extra large bags of trash.
Clarissa Rendon, a senior at Liberty, said, “I had no idea how much trash there is on Niblick. We need to do more to educate local people about not littering. Some of the items we found were disgusting.”
Guess hopes to have fifteen students participate in October’s cleanup.
