Congresswoman Lois Capps visited the North County Thursday for the first time since she made public her plans to retire
Capps visited Paso Bamboo, planted by ranch owner Gavino Villa, to highlight the importance of agriculture and small businesses to the Central Coast economy.
Capps reportedly said that she has a lot planned for the next 22 months she will be in office before she retires at the end of the term. She said that her priorities are agriculture, immigration reform and the economy.
Some rumors have been circulating that suggest Capps’ daughter Laura Burton Capps may be planning a congressional run. Congresswoman Capps didn’t not confirm these rumors during her visit, but according to sources said that it was up to her daughter, and that she would support her daughter’s decision.
Laura Burton Capps has worked as a speech writer for Bill Clinton, served as press secretary for John Kerry, and has also worked for Senator Edward Kennedy. Her husband, Bill Burton, was the national press secretary during Obama’s first campaign for president. Laura and her husband relocated to Santa Barbara two years ago.
