20-year-old man arrested for assault with deadly weapon

On Monday, May 18, at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Paso Robles Police Department reported that its communications center received multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a male suspect who had attempted to stab another person in the area of the 1200 block of Corral Creek. Witnesses reported the suspect was running away from the area towards Creston Road.
The adult male victim stated the suspect had challenged him to fight without any provocation, the police reported. This victim did not fight the suspect, choosing to leave the area to avoid a confrontation; two of the victim’s brothers (one adult and one juvenile) met up with him and as they walked away, the suspect caught up with them and began chasing them with a knife, police report.
The suspect then reportedly yelled that he was going to stab the brothers and swung the knife at them. The brothers all fled, but not before the adult male victim suffered a minor cut to his elbow. The suspect then fled on foot. As officers arrived in the area, they located a subject matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of Creston and Cedarwood. When officers moved to detain this suspect, police say he fled into Sherwood Park and attempted to hide in the public restrooms, where officers ordered the suspect out and he complied. The suspect was detained without further incident. He was found in possession of a folding knife, and officers located a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine in the area where he had been hiding.
The adult male victim positively identified the suspect. The suspect was arrested and identified as 20 year old Paso Robles resident Rafael Aguilar Anguiano. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon (felony), resisting arrest (misdemeanor), and possession of narcotics paraphernalia (misdemeanor), the police reported.
According to the police, this incident is still under investigation, but at this time it does not appear to be gang related.
