Is this due to California's drought or previous years water mismanagement?
Yep, probably!
Not a result of previous years of mismanagement.
Drought. Lack of rainfall. Call it what you will… San Antonio water is captured in the winter (rainy) months so that it can be released throughout the summer. The water flows down (up, actually, the Salinas River runs northward) the Salinas River so that the lake water discharge can eventually prevent saltwater from the blue Pacific ocean from creeping up the Salinas Valley groundwater aquifer. This is a phenomenon called saltwater incursion.
As far as I know there are no significant end-user draws upon the lake (like golf courses or vineyards).
Thats crazy because im out here in Oklahoma and we got so much rain water that our lakes are overflowing!!! You all can take all this water with you!!!
Everyone knows California is in very bad shape water wise!!!
I'm very happy for Oklahoma.
If I remember correctly. Lake San Antonio also feeds Lake Naciamento, who's pumps went down recently (for salt water incursion) and put an even more serious drain on our lake. Naciamento is also connected to pipelines feeding two other cities further south. Can't remember which ones.
I feel really bad for California because i lived there for 18 years and i never dreamed things would get that bad for that state of all places!!!
