New local online artist marketplace launches

– ARTshop Central Coast is a new online marketplace that features the work of local artists where buyers can shop unique and handmade items from creative people working on the Central Coast.
The ARTshop Central Coast website, found at artshopcc.com, easily connects local artists with those who appreciate and want to buy fine art, as well as arts and crafts. “When you buy an original artwork from ARTshop Central Coast, you are supporting local artists’ careers and a vibrant creative community,” said ARTshop Central Coast director Robin Smith. “Our message is simple. If you need a gift for a birthday, anniversary, home décor, whatever it may be, check out ARTshop Central Coast first before going to a box store. You will find beautiful handmade items, and at the same time be supporting artists and keeping money in our community. It’s a win-win situation.”
Robin Smith has a background in marketing and television production. “Besides making ARTshop Central Coast available for artists and buyers, I want to tell the stories of these creative people and why they make art,” said Smith. “When shoppers come to ARTshop Central Coast, they can check-out our blog and meet the artists. There is a deeper appreciation when you know who made it and why.”
There are a variety of artists and items on the website. Jeff Sauer from San Luis Obispo makes furniture from salvaged wood. Denise Braun of Atascadero creates colorful mixed media paintings. Irina Malkmus from Solvang uses old-world techniques in her pewter-embossed wall art. John Rollins from Paso Robles makes handmade snare drums. Janelle Younger of San Luis Obispo uses vintage kitchen utensils and other knick-knacks in her 3D art.
ARTshop Central Coast artists must live on the Central Coast, which is defined as northern Santa Barbara County including Lompoc and Santa Maria, up to San Miguel in San Luis Obispo County. The website opened for business in May and currently has 18 featured artists. “My goal is to have 100 artists featured on ARTshop Central Coast by the holiday season,” said Smith.
