City council authorizes update of traffic signal cameras
– At the Paso Robles City Council’s meeting last week, the council voted unanimously to allocate $115,200 from general fund reserves to upgrade video detection cameras at traffic signals.
The city’s streets maintenance division staff identified six intersections where the originally-installed traffic signal cameras have negatively impacted signal operation and traffic flow. The city’s traffic signal contractor recommended that replacing the existing video detection cameras with new color cameras will improve operations. Each of the targeted intersections is equipped with four cameras. Upgrades were prioritized based on the incidence of repair/reports.
In priority order, the targeted intersections are:
- 13th & Paso Robles Street (one camera non-operational)
- 13th & Riverside
- Niblick & South River
- Niblick & Woodland Plaza
- Niblick & Creston
- Creston & North River
Other traffic signals within the city that are still operational and no not need repair are:
- 24th & Spring
- 24th & Vine
- Niblick & Nicklaus
- Niblick & Bearcat Ln.
- Niblick & Rambouillet
- Niblick & Country Club
- Creston & Nickerson
While they are at it, they should put back the right turn arrow for North Bound Riverside Traffic making a right turn onto 13th. Even though they removed the right turn arrow, locals know when to turn but out of towners just sit there! Very Frustrating!!!!!
12th and Spring is where they need one. I have seen drivers shifting gears to make the light, not to forget all of us that take our lives in our own hands when you need to cross the street.
