Council authorizes next step for Highway 46 improvements

The city will enter into a contract with consulting engineering firm Hatch-Mott-MacDonald to prepare the Project Approval Environmental Documents for the improvements, in the amount of $900,000 with a $50,000 contingency.
Councilman Jim Reed questioned the expense, saying that close to one million dollars was a lot of money to spend on an environmental review. Capital Projects Engineer Ditas Esperanza explained that the process actually involves seven different reviews, and that they are all required for the improvements. The council voted unanimously to authorize the contract.
Why an Interchange at that ;ocation?
Yes it is dangerous, but there is very little usage.
I presume that this has something to do with the Hunter Ranch housing development that has been in planning for about 20 years.
All I had heard before was a possible intersection at 46 and Airport Road. That's the one on the plans that is supposed to provide a route circumventing 101/46 and downtown Paso Robles.
Are they then planning on cutting off Golden Hill Road from Highway 46?
