Twin Cities executive chef wins Top Chef Competition

Adam White, executive chef of Twin Cities Community Hospital, earned the title of Top Chef at the Fourth Annual Top Chef Competition Thursday night in front of a crowd of more than 100 attendees. The competition was a fundraiser for The Wellness Kitchen in Templeton.

Chef White beat out stiff competition in Chef Jacob Lovejoy of Cass Winery and Chef Hector Giancarlo Perez Scolari of Daou Winery. The chefs were provided with a closed bag of ingredients prior to each of the three phases of competition and were asked to prepare a heart healthy appetizer, a main dish for longevity and a blood-sugar-balanced dessert. The judges, who included Alex Martin, chef and owner of Crush Catering who won the previous three competitions and retired undefeated, Dr. Darya Boland, a naturopathic doctor in Paso Robles, and Jay Walson, chef and owner at Indigo Moon in Cambria, scored each chef following every round.

“This is a great win for hospital chefs everywhere. It shows how our industry has changed its focus to recognize we need to have outstanding culinary standards for both patients and visitors,” said Ron Yukelson, Twin Cities’ Associate Administrator, Business Development. “For too many years we set an expectation of bland, poorly tasting hospital food and then we met people’s expectations. We couldn’t be more proud of Chef Adam and the message his victory sends about how serious we are about the quality of our food at Twin Cities.”

White has been the executive chef at Twin Cities Community Hospital for the past two and a half years. He is employed by Morrison Healthcare who is contracted to provide the food and nutrition services at Twin Cities.

The Wellness Kitchen and Resource Center, located across the street from Twin Cities Community Hospital, is a non-profit organization formed to provide the community with education, support and resources on the value of healing through nutrition. It is open for lunch and also provides nourishing meals and healing foods for individuals wanting to regain or sustain optimal health.
