City to begin converting to LED streetlights
PG&E expects project to be completed by early March
–On Jan. 28, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, along with the City of Paso Robles, announced a collaborative effort to convert approximately 2,300 non-decorative streetlights to energy-efficient and longer lasting Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures. PG&E will begin installations the first week of February and will aim to finish the project in early March.
LED streetlights use 50 to 75-percent less energy than traditional bulbs, and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and require less maintenance.
The new streetlights, which provide a more natural-looking light, can last up to four times longer than traditional bulbs. The optical technology in LED lights creates more evenly distributed light, resulting in greater visibility for pedestrians and drivers.
Each installation takes approximately five minutes per lamp fixture, with all work being done in public. Customers will be notified by mail of replacement activity occurring in their neighborhood prior to PG&E’s arrival. PG&E expects no service disruptions as a result of this work.
