Organization works to improve dental treatment access for kids

Child At The DentistryWith support of grant, center will meet dental needs of 25 or more children and youth

The Center for Family Strengthening has awarded $10,000 on behalf of their Dental Care for Kids Partnership with SLO County Public Health Department to help improve access to restorative dental treatment for uninsured children who cannot qualify for Medi-Cal. The children receive a referral concerning dental disease from the Child Health Disability Prevention Program, or CHDP, “Well Child” exam. With the support of this grant, the center will meet the dental health needs of 25 or more children and youth.

“In SLO County, there are thousands of children who do not qualify for Medi-Cal coverage and cannot afford dental care, which leads to long-term neglect of basic dental hygiene,” said Lisa Fraser, Center for Family Strengthening’s executive director. “The Grant Funding allows for earlier intervention and thus prevents extensive disease from going untreated.”

CHDP identifies the need for more participating dentists and CFS connects with dentists to meet the growing numbers of children needing dental care. Center for Family Strengthening provides the non-profit fiscal management services, disbursement of payments to the dental providers in a timely manner, and works with CHDP to track outputs and outcomes and completion of reports.
