Letter: Vote ‘Yes’ on A and B

To the editor,Submit news of Letter to the editor

As a fourth generation resident of this county, I’m dismayed by some of the name calling that has come from the anti water district advocates. We who have worked long and hard to find a local solution, initially to solve our increasing water problems, and more recently to respond to the new state groundwater law, are your neighbors. We don’t like more taxes any more than you do. But the state legislature has passed a law that will require more taxes and a local district, run by your neighbors, is by far the best deal out there. That’s why those of us who live in the north county need to vote “yes” on A16 and B16.

Vote NO on A & B. If you want the prescious water that's under our feet to stay there, then vote no to big money and outsiders, who will suck the water right out of here.

    Bob Brown

Voting no means yes to the State or the County controlling our wells. Thousands of small landowners will control 5 of the 9 seats. Many long time landowners who own 40 to just under 400 acres don't look at themselves as big landowners either. Many too are not growing grapes. The two water district board members in this category don't grow grapes. Every candidate owns a well and lives in the district. No one is going to take anyone's water.

    Laurie Gage

Voting Yes on Measures A and B ensures that the ONLY agency expressly and absolutely prohibited from exporting will be managing the Basin for sustainability into the future. Let's work with our neighbors to find solutions to our issues here – and the best way to do that is with people we elect locally who have wells and homes in our Basin. Remember, Jefferson said, "The best government is that closest to the people."

    Sue Luft for Paso Basin

Great letter, Steve. We are all in this together and are ready to start working on solutions. The water district will require all large water users to meter their usage and will establish pumping limits on large water users to maintain basin sustainability and balance. The water district cannot sell water, SGMA does not allow water to be sold from a declining basin, and all of the water district candidates have stated that they will not allow water to be sold. We had to drill a new well into poor quality water. I would fight any attempt to sell our water!
