Earth Day Food and Wine Festival celebrates its 10th year

Chefs, farmers and winemakers serve up wide variety of sustainable fare
–The 10th annual Earth Day Food & Wine festival returned to Castoro Cellars on Saturday. The festival celebrates sustainability by championing locally grown and prepared food, beer and wine in a family-friendly atmosphere.

The festival was borne from the desire to “share sustainable wine and food with hungry eaters and caring connoisseurs.” Treats included seasonal produce, grass-fed meats, artisanal cheeses, local olive oils, and desserts such as homemade sorbet. The event was supported by over 100 volunteers.
Max Udsen, son of Castoro Cellars owners Niels and Bimmer Udsen, pouring samples of the family’s latest project, Bethel Road Distillery. “We are always evolving,” said Max about the new project.
Proceeds from this event support Spanish-speaking workers in the local agricultural industry and their families in two ways:
- Educational scholarships for vineyard workers’ relatives
- Free Spanish language education for vineyard workers

“We came to enjoy all that this festival has to offer,” said attendee Tom Dwyer, who has attended the festival multiple times. “Last year we were volunteers and worked really hard, so this year we decided to just come and enjoy,” said friend Korey Dudley.
Tom Dwyer and friend Korey Dudley both have attended the festival for many years.
Local band Captain Nasty provided the day’s entertainment, and crowds gathered around visiting birds of prey from local company Airstrike Bird Control, which offers Falconry-based bird abatement for agriculture, landfills, resorts and other situations with pest bird problems.
