FFA students excel at state competition
Students compete in Veterinary Science contest for the first time

–The Paso Robles FFA Welding Team competed at the California FFA Welding State Finals earlier this month at Cuesta College. There were 29 teams with 116 total participants this year. Students had to demonstrate welding skills in four separate areas: shielded metal arc welding, oxygen-acetylene welding, gas metal arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding.
In addition to the hands-on portion of the contest, students were required to bring a professional portfolio, take a fifty question written test, complete an industry-standard job application at the site, and work through a fifty question weld inspection area.
This year, Paso Robles FFA placed third in the state with Iver Hansen taking third place as an individual as well. Team members include; Iver Hansen (junior), Daniel Oliver (junior), Shane Terra (junior), and Zac Alves (freshman). Each student on the team won a Metabo hand grinder, welding gloves, and safety glasses. In addition, Iver won a metal cut-off saw and an oxygen-acetylene welding/ cutting outfit.

The Veterinary Science Team earned third place in the state for the written exam portion of the contest. Eden Peterson won fifth high individual in the state on the written exam portion of the contest.
This is the first time Paso Robles High School has ever had a Veterinary Science Team. Advisor Amanda Gardner said, “I have truly enjoyed coaching these girls and we are even more excited to compete again next year!”
