Update: Camp Roberts fire now 90 per-cent contained

Update May 20, 3:45 p.m.:
–The Camp Roberts fire near Paso Robles, is now 90 per-cent contained and has officially burnt 3,712 acres of land, according to Cal Fire.
The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon and was started by a 60 mm mortar illumination round, which is similar to a flare, reports say.
Update May 20, 7:30 a.m.:
–The Camp Roberts fire, 10 miles northwest of Paso Robles, was 3800 acres and remains 70 per-cent contained as of yesterday afternoon, according to Cal Fire.
Cal Fire and SLO County Fire Tanker 75 from Paso Robles Air Attack Base plus dozers, engines and hand crews assisted with the fire containment, which started at 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18.
Update May 19, 7:30 a.m.:
–Fire crews worked Wednesday afternoon and through the night to contain two vegetation fires in the North County. Both fires have now been contained. Crews worked late into the night to contain a fire at the Camp Roberts base in San Miguel. The Sycamore Road, Atascadero, fire was contained at 3:30 p.m. yesterday. The fire was caused by downed power lines and two homes were threatened with back yards on fire. Crews were later redirected to the Camp Roberts fire.

The 1500 acre vegetation fire at Camp Roberts was 70 per-cent contained last night. Cal Fire and SLO County Fire Tanker 75 from Paso Robles Air Attack Base plus dozers and engines assisted with the fire and further hand crews arrived this morning to reinforce the lines, according to reports.
Cooler temperatures today will help with further containment and morning winds are expected to blow the smoke and fog away, reports say.

–Two brush fires broke out yesterday in North County. One on the Camp Roberts base in San Miguel, another on Sycamore road in Atascadero.
The San Miguel fire broke out around noon today. They are currently requesting the support of two additional engines. The Atascadero fire appears to be the result of downed power lines although this is not confirmed. Two homes are threatened with back yards on fire. Eye witnesses reported hearing a large explosion. Aircraft are on their way as of 3 p.m.
All involved fire agencies are currently responding and were unable to provide further details. Updates will be posted as more information is received.

Sycamore was a blown transformer. String of Italian cypress trees next to the pole caught fire, lighting the tall grass in a front yard. No homes were damaged.

Hard to believe the Camp Roberts fire was vegetation! The smell here in Paso in the middle of the night was an oil refinery type odor and strong enough we had to close windows!! Terrible smell!
