Letter: I’m a Democrat and I’m ashamed of my party

To the editor,

I would like to submit a letter expressing some of my recent thoughts on the false attacks against Katcho Achadjian.

I’ve considered myself a staunch liberal as long as I can remember. However, for the first time, I’m truly ashamed of my own party. Living in San Luis Obispo for over 20 years, I’ve gotten to know Katcho Achadjian quite well. First and foremost, Katcho is a community man. He’s helped countless families including mine when my parents lost their jobs. Even though I don’t agree with some of Katcho’s views, he has always listened to the people and done what was best for the community.

The recently launched negative and blatantly false campaign aimed at ruining a good man’s name out of fear that a Republican might win is sad. Mail and TV ads frame Katcho as anti-women. Anyone who knows Katcho knows this is false and far from the truth. Katcho has always been at the forefront of women’s issues in this community and always standing shoulder to shoulder to elevate women including myself. Katcho even authored a bill to protect victims of rape.

Democrats always blame Republicans for playing dirty. But the truth is, they all do. A message to my party: stop muddying our political process.
