– Paso Robles City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tern Fred Strong has filed his statement of intent to seek re-election as a member of the Paso Robles City Council.

Strong says, “I am in a unique position on the Paso Robles City Council to advocate on behalf of local governments throughout the nation as I serve on regional, state and national levels to ensure a local voice is heard. These councils and boards have an impact on all cities, towns and communities around the country. I am proud of what I have accomplished for the City of Paso Robles as an advocate for transportation, infrastructure and housing. We have accomplished much and we have much work to be completed for the benefit of our citizens, our city and the American people over the next four years.”

Strong has served Paso Robles in multiple capacities since 2006. Strong says he has had a consistent stance to keep government local by limiting the powers of regional government and the state and keeping major funding decisions as close to the people as possible. He has been unanimously elected, and re-elected, by them to the boards of directors and executive committees of state and national organizations representing regional government. On June 29 he was unanimously re-elected by local officials throughout the United States to a third term on the board of directors of the National-2-Association of Regional Councils and was also re-appointed to his fifth term as National Transportation Policy Chairman for that organization.

Strong has previously also been chosen by SLOCOG to represent the county on the board of directors of the Pacific Surfliner Intercity Passenger Rail Corridor (LOSSAN), from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, where he became chairman of the board and was re-elected to that position. He currently serves on the board of directors and executive committee of that agency. Strong was involved in getting local government funding protected and extended by the Federal Government through transportation re-authorization bills in congress. His most recent leadership efforts, in concert with his peers, resulted in the first multiyear, bi-partisan, transportation re-authorization bill in over a decade. Strong says his next effort will be to secure sufficient funding to complete the projects, nationwide, that were authorized in that legislation, including completion of improvements to highways 46 East and 101.
