Elizabeth Miranda, 18, and Jonathan Hutchings, 19, both of San Miguel, were arrested after the car they were traveling in crashed into a riverbed and they fled the scene. The two were arrested for obstructing or delaying an officer, and transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail where they were booked.

The incident began On Thursday at about 3:30 p.m. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office received information from the San Luis Obispo Probation Department that a wanted minor was at a location in San Miguel.

While a deputy was in the area investigating, he received additional information regarding a vehicle description that the wanted minor was possible driving. Moments later that same deputy observed a vehicle matching the description fleeing the area at a high rate of speed.

The deputy attempted to follow and overtake the vehicle. He located the vehicle at 15th Street and N Street in San Miguel.

The vehicle continued to attempt to evade the deputy by driving south bound on North River Road. The deputy initiated a pursuit and followed the vehicle south bound on North River Road to the intersection of Wellsona Road where the suspect vehicle was unable to negotiate the turn, lost control and exited the roadway, crashing into a dry riverbed.

Four occupants of the vehicle immediately fled the scene of the crash on foot. Responding units from the sheriff’s office, gang task Force, California Highway Patrol, CHP helicopter, Paso Robles Police Department, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and CalFire set up a perimeter and began a large area search for the suspects.

It was discovered the vehicle was recently stolen from Atascadero. Three of the four subjects that fled the scene were located and detained.

During the recovery of the stolen vehicle the deputy located approximately $5000 in stolen tools. The deputy recognized the tools because he had taken the theft report earlier in the day in rural Paso Robles. The recovered property was returned to the victim.

No further information is being released at this time as the investigation continues.
