Community shows support for re-instatement of football coach
–About a half dozen protesters picketed outside of the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District office Wednesday calling for the re-instatement of Paso Robles High School Football Coach Rich Schimke after he was suspended for his involvement in a recent incident involving maple syrup.
Schimke, a football coach for Paso Robles High School, can be seen pouring a “body shot” of maple syrup into a player’s belly button during a post-game celebration in the locker room in a video obtained by the Paso Robles Daily News. The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District says that they are, “aware of the video.” The investigation remains ongoing and Schimke remains placed on paid administrative leave.
A hashtag, #Istandwithschimke was started on social media, with community members posting pictures of the protesters and other efforts to show their support. “‘He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone.’ Schimke is a good person and doesn’t deserve any of this #istandwithschimke,” wrote El Colton on Twitter yesterday. Protests are expected to continue Thursday and Monday, and at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board Meeting held on the 8th.
