Atascadero man injured in crash on Highway 46 

Wasco woman pronounced dead at the scene

–53-year-old David Hughes of Atascadero sustained major injuries in a crash that occurred around 1:25 a.m. Sunday morning on Highway 46 East, approximately 30 miles north of Bakersfield, according to reports.

A 20-year old woman from Wasco, who was driving the other vehicle involved in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports say that Hughes was driving a 2010 Toyota and drifted into the oncoming traffic lane for unknown reasons, colliding head-on into a 2014 Toyota driven by the sole female occupant.

Neither alcohol or drugs appear to be factors in this crash, and it is still under investigation.
