Morro Bay State Park reopens following recent storms
Fallen trees, damaged roads and campground facilities forced closure in February
Fallen trees, damaged roads and campground facilities forced closure in February–California State Parks announced that Morro Bay State Park and its historic campground reopened to the public on March 9. The recent storms damaged roads, caused numerous trees to fall and damaged campground facilities, structures and vehicles. As a result, the park was closed on Feb. 17 in order to protect public safety. Emergency repairs to the roads and campground have now been completed and online reservations for campsites are now being accepted by Reserve America or by phone at (800) 444 7275.
“With the assistance of our partner agencies we made excellent progress removing fallen and hazardous trees and limbs, including hazardous trees in proximity to state park buildings and facilities,” said San Luis Obispo Coast District Superintendent Dan Falat. “We would like to thank our partners at CalFire, the California Conservation Corps, and the City of Morro Bay for their rapid responses and invaluable assistance. With these partnerships in place, we are able to more quickly and efficiently mitigate these public safety hazards and facilitate public access in a timely fashion.”
