Residents opposed to proposed roundabouts in Templeton
More than 100 residents turned out Sunday night for a town hall meeting at the Templeton Community Center to discuss proposed single-lane roundabouts for Main Street on both sides of the Highway 101 interchange in Templeton.
San Luis Obispo County engineers offered four options to improve the intersection. All included roundabouts. They ranged in cost from $8.8 million to $20.5 million.
The county, SLOCOG and CalTrans are proposing roundabouts as a fix for the traffic issues at the 101/Main Street intersection.

The crowd was overwhelmingly opposed to a roundabout. Some cited safety issues. Others said a roundabout could not handle local truck traffic, particularly big rigs. Several people asked that the county return with a plan which does not include a roundabout.
County planners will conduct another public hearing later this year. Construction is not expected to begin for 5-7 years.
