Paso Robles Online Academy now open to middle school students
Informational meeting to be held on March 29
– Paso Robles Joint Unified School District (PRJUSD) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a new curriculum for the Paso Robles Online (PRO) Academy. By doing so, enrollment is now available for students throughout San Luis Obispo County beginning in sixth grade and continuing through high school.
The PRO Academy is a free, online, public middle and high school program for students seeking a personalized alternative to the traditional school environment. It is the first district-supported online program in north San Luis Obispo County that has college preparatory courses approved for enrollment in a 4-year university directly after high school.
The PRO Academy is currently accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the program is invited to attend an informational parent meeting on Wednesday, March 29, at 6:00 PM in the PRJUSD Board Room.
How does the PRO Academy work?
The PRO Academy follows the same graduation requirements as the other high schools in PRJUSD with the difference being the flexibility in scheduling. Students meet with a designated online teacher once a week for one to two hours. During these meetings, students take tests, access tutoring, and work with their teacher to develop the weekly assignment sheet. The rest of the week is spent working independently to complete the assignments. Because the courses are online, that means the students can complete them anywhere and anytime. This provides students the flexibility to do things such as work during the day, travel with their families, audition to pursue a career in the arts, or compete in rodeos or motocross, all while finishing their diploma courses.
