Man arrested for stealing FedEx packages off doorsteps

–On Wednesday, officers frm the Morro Bay Police Department received a report of a suspicious vehicle following a FedEx delivery truck. The FedEx driver reported that he had observed the same vehicle following him on Monday Dec. 11, and believed the driver had taken a package from a residence on that date after he had left the area.

The driver provided a vehicle description and license plate, and officers were able to locate the vehicle. During the investigation officers located property within the vehicle that was determined to have been stolen from a Morro Bay residence. Suspect John Fort was contacted at the residence and subsequently returned property from inside the residence that was also determined to have been stolen.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and the vehicle, and located additional evidence of stolen property from at least two additional addresses in Morro Bay. Officers are working to contact the owners of those property items.

Suspect John Fort was arrested for possession of stolen property and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail without incident.

The Morro Bay Police Department would like to remind all citizens that during this holiday time please be aware of any packages that may be delivered to your home. You can get additional safety tips from the Morro Bay Police Department Facebook page.
