Children’s book author to hold book signing event in Paso Robles

    – Award-winning children’s author, Elizabeth Van Steenwyk, will sign copies of her newest book, “Blacksmith’s Song,” 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Feb. 24 at Brookdale Paso Robles, 1919 Creston Rd., Paso Robles. Serving small bites and entertainment, this event is free and open to all generations of the public. Copies of “Blacksmith’s Song” will be generously gifted to the first twenty attendees and will be available for purchase thereafter.

Written from her Brookdale apartment, “Blacksmith’s Song,” was released in January 2018 by Peachtree Publishers. It tells the story of a nine-year-old son of an enslaved blacksmith who learns that his father uses the rhythm of his hammer and anvil to communicate crucial information to slaves fleeing on the Underground Railroad. When his father falls ill, the youngster takes over the task of leading his own family to safety.

Van Steenwyk has written 75 books for young people and owns the local winery, Adelaida Cellars. As an author, Van Steenwyk’s work has captured honors from the magazine Highlights for Children, the International Film and Television Festival, the New York Public Library and many other competitions and organizations.
