Fundraiser will support advocacy for abused and neglected children in North County

–Forty percent of the children in foster care in San Luis Obispo County reside in the North County. CASA of San Luis Obispo County (CASA of SLO County)’s annual event, “Hope for the Future,” raises awareness of the need for volunteer advocates for children and teenagers in North County, and money to train and support the men and women who take on that role. This year is especially meaningful for the fundraiser because CASA of SLO County is celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2018.

At the Paso Robles Inn on April 21, guests will dine in elegance, enjoy local wines, and have the chance to participate in both silent and live auctions, including the event’s famous cake auction. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. An individual ticket costs $100, and guests can also buy tickets as a group and reserve tables of eight or ten. Tickets must be purchased by April 6.

This year, “Hope for the Future” also includes a raffle for an eight-day, two-person trip to Costa Rica, with stops in San Jose, Fortuna, Guanacaste and Manuel Antonio. Raffle tickets cost $25 each or five for $100. They are on sale now at the CASA office at 75 Higuera Street, Suite 180 in San Luis Obispo.

CASA of SLO County advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children under the protection of the court system. A CASA volunteer serves as a stable presence in a child’s life throughout all transitions, and gets to know the child’s story to be able to speak up on his or her behalf when needed. CASA volunteers provide vital information to the court.

“CASA volunteers demonstrate to these kids and teenagers that they are worthy of love, care and time,” said Teresa Tardiff, Executive Director of CASA SLO County. “For children who go through multiple foster placements, their CASA might be the only consistent person in their life. Right now, the need in North County is great and we want to see these children provided for.”
