Ten High School Dreamer students awarded $500 scholarships
—The Hispanic Business Association, the Hispanic Community Foundation, and five local businesses awarded ten Dreamer students from PRHS $500 in their collegiate pursuits recently. In addition to the ten PRHS students, two students from Shandon were recognized; the fiesta-themed awards ceremony was held at the San Miguel Parish Hall on May 3.
The non-profit organization HBA has awarded scholarships for the past five years. The application process started with 50 students and those chosen to proceed to the next round had an interview. Twelve students were picked after that round to receive the scholarship.
“Thank you so much to the Association for honoring the kids… I show up every day to work hard for them,” said PRHS principal Eric Martinez at the event, which also featured two guest speakers.
Local business sponsors included Siegel’s Jewelry, Leticia’s First Class Cleaning Inc., author and artist Henry A. J. Ramos, Blue Moon Southwestern Bar and Grill, and Mary Kay consultant and HCF president Maria Elena Garcia.
