Atascadero woman arrested after attempting to evade police
–On Monday, at 8:54 p.m., an officer located a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 5500 block of El Camino Real. A traffic stop was attempted on the vehicle but the driver fled, making several evasive maneuvers to avoid being stopped. After a short pursuit, the vehicle collided with another vehicle in the intersection of Traffic Way and Lewis Ave.
It was determined the driver, Alexis Cheshire, a 20-year-old female from Atascadero, had been operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol and with a suspended driver license. Cheshire was taken into custody and booked at county jail for felony driving under the influence of alcohol with injury, felony evading a police officer, driving while suspended and possession of an open container. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
