–Unit 2 at Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Diablo Canyon Power Plant safely shut down as designed Dec. 1 following an indication of an electrical disturbance that occurred in equipment on the non-nuclear side of the plant. Unit 1 is currently operating at 55-percent power due to maintenance activities.
Plant operators responded to the Unit 2 shutdown according to procedures and are working to determine the cause of the incident.
The unit remains in a safe condition and will be restored to service after the cause is fully understood and the equipment is tested. PG&E has informed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and appropriate local and state officials.
