DUI checkpoint operated on Creston Road
–The Paso Robles Police Department operated a sobriety checkpoint Friday night on Creston Road in front of Daniel Lewis Middle School. From 6 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. early Saturday morning, officers stopped all vehicles traveling southeast on Creston Road and questioned the drivers.
Sgt. David Opheim says officers asked each driver to produce his or her driver’s license. Any drivers showing signs of impairment due to drugs or alcohol were advised to drive to a neighboring parking lot for a field sobriety check.
As of 8:15 p.m. Friday, the team had stopped 317 cars. Several drivers were cited for not having a driver’s license. None at that hour were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Temperatures early Saturday morning dropped to 24 degrees in some parts of Paso Robles. Sgt. David Opheim said, “It’s cold, but not insufferable.”
Opheim said Friday night’s sobriety checkpoint was paid for by a state Office of Traffic Safety grant.
