Active shooter drills start today at Templeton school site

Letter distributed by Templeton Unified School District:

    Good morning,

The SLO County Sheriff’s Office reached out to us today to schedule an active shooter drill on one of our campuses starting tomorrow, Thursday, June 20 and continuing through Saturday, June 22. It is important to know that this will not involve live ammunition or explosives.

With TES and THS under construction, and the TES administration relocated to the TMS campus, the most logical other option is the VES campus. Please be advised there will be signage at the Vineyard Drive entrance to the campus of the active shooter drill taking place as well as at the gate between the administration office and the MPR. The drills are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each of the three days. The school office staff have been informed and will be working during this time. Our understanding is they will be utilizing the MPR and H-wing for their drill.

Drills such as this are critical to keeping law enforcement prepared in the event of a real situation and we’re excited to have this drill conducted on one of our campuses. It will provide emergency responders with first-hand experience with the school and possibly generate suggestions for us to consider. We appreciate the cooperation of everyone. We will be notifying our families and requesting that Soaring Eagle Press help get the word out about this drill as well.
