Expanded dining room finished at Joe’s One-Niner Diner

–The new, expanded dining room at Joe’s One-Niner Diner is finally open at the Paso Robles Airport. It took nearly two years, but the city finally completed the enclosed patio. The additional space doubles the restaurant capacity. The improvements include lighting and air conditioning

Joe Ontiveros says he’s waiting for a few more tables, which will go on the newly finished patio. He’s also getting blinds to shade the early morning sun.

The restaurant has become a great venue to spot artists who perform at Vina Robles or the California Mid-State Fair. Many arrive on private jets at the Paso Robles Airport. Some visit the restaurant for a sandwich or breakfast before they depart.

Joe’s One-Niner Diner is one of three restaurants owned by Joe Ontiveros. Joe also owns Joe’s Place in Paso Robles and Joe’s Other Place in Templeton.

The Paso Robles Restaurant is located where Lolo’s operated for many years. Lolo’s was owned and managed by Ted and Esper Ontiveros, Joe’s parents. Joe says, “My parents taught me the restaurant business, and they taught me well. I’m still learning from them.”

Ted Ontiveros managed Sambo’s Restaurants in Reno and Goleta, before relocating to Paso Robles to open Lolo’s several decades ago.

Esper grew up in Bradley. She saved many family recipes, some of which manifest on Joe’s menus.

Joe’s One-Niner Diner is open from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. six days a week. On Sunday it opens at 7 a.m. There’s always plenty of free parking.
