Evening of Paso Robles ‘Haunted Histories’ coming to local museum

Paso Robles haunted history

-The Paso Robles Area Historical Society is hosting its fifth Evening of History & Wine this Friday, at the Paso Robles History Museum.

This event has been carefully researched and you will most certainly be surprised by some of the Ghost Stories of Paso’s Past.’ Here’s a peek at the tale of Hago’s curse.

In 1920, Paso Robles was awash with scandal and speculation. Myrtle Dean had been arrested for the mysterious murder of her husband, Fred. Myrtle maintained that something supernatural had harmed her husband, and throughout the proceedings, references were made to the legend of a powerful 19th-century Salinan medicine man named Hago who put a curse upon intruders who disrespected sacred sites; “Upon all hereafter coming wrongfully upon this land shall fall a curse.” The Dean’s ranch was located on the very spot where Hago had etched his dire warning into a boulder. During the murder trial, 13 skeletons were unearthed near the Dean ranch. Paso Robles resident and district attorney, M.R. VanWormer scoffed at the suggestion that these bones belonged to additional victims of Hago’s curse.

Starting at 5:30 p.m. with a social and wine tasting, featuring Cloak & Dagger Winery and charcuterie by Jen Fox, the evening will continue with more haunting tales from Paso’s past, followed by a Q&A session when guests can share their own ghost stories. The evening continues with a revisit to Paso’s most elusive, exclusive, handcrafted wines by Cloak & Dagger.

A donation of $20 at the door will be most appreciated. The Paso Robles History Museum is located inside the Carnegie Library, in the Downtown City Park at 800 Park St. Paso Robles.

Space is limited. RSVP at: pasohistory1@gmail.com. You will be notified if there are still seats available.
