Families invited to education rights session in Paso Robles
Mujeres de Acción partnering with the California Rural Legal Assistance to host an information session at Centennial Park
– Families preparing for the 2024-25 school year in the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District will need to navigate significant changes, including the closure of campuses on Creston Road and 36th Street. These closures will affect pick-up and drop-off times, commutes, and coordination of extracurricular activities.
To address these anticipated issues, local non-profit Mujeres de Acción is partnering with the California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) to host an information session on June 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the White Oak Room in Centennial Park.
Families are invited to learn about their legal rights to an education, including topics such as bullying and discrimination, special education, school discipline, language equity, and compliance with educational laws.
“Paso Robles families have the right to a public education and deserve to know how they are protected,” said Evan Harris, staff attorney at CRLA. “We hope that our information session will empower them, so they know when to speak up about issues in the classroom and the community.”
Mujeres de Acción organized this information session in response to the recent changes in the school district.
“Our community has a lot to navigate, from bouncing back from COVID-19 learning loss, to changes in schools, to fighting for a fair education,” said Yessenia Echevarria, executive director at Mujeres de Acción. “We know that many parents have questions and will do our best with CRLA to get them answered.”
