Freedom is a family affair at Templeton Independence Day Celebrations
–On Thursday, July 4, Templeton will come alive in the spirit of Independence with a day full of activities for the whole family.
Start your morning with the annual Templeton Firefighter’s Association Pancake Breakfast at the fire station. Tickets are $8 per adult/$5 for kids under 10, but get your tickets early (from any firefighter, at the station or TCSD, after June 1) as they usually sell out.
No holiday breakfast is complete without a Bloody Mary or Mimosa which the Templeton Chamber will be serving up just across the street in the Templeton Park
The Independence Day Parade, which starts at 10 a.m. and is produced by the Rotary Club of Templeton. Applications for floats and entries can be obtained on the Rotary Club website: TempletonRotary.com, or you can pick them up in person and drop them off at the Templeton Chamber office, 321 Main Street or the Templeton Community Service District Office, 420 Crocker Street. The parade will entertain the gathered crowds all the way up Crocker Street and back down Main Street from 1st to 8th Street.
After the parade, head over to the Templeton Park, where the party continues with food and craft vendors, games, live music, ice cold beer and good old fashion family fun until 3 p.m.
Templeton is one of the few communities on the Central Coast that does still allow personal fireworks, so be sure to purchase the “Safe N Sane” brands from one of the non-profit booths in town, and be sure you are lighting them in an approved area of town.
For Vendor Applications please contact Gail or Joyce at the Templeton Chamber of Commerce (805) 434-1789 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The Templeton 4th of July Parade is produced by the Rotary Club of Templeton.
If you would like to participate in the parade, applications are being accepted now. All family, church and service oriented groups are free. All Clubs incur a $10 fee (car clubs are encouraged to consider a $10/car donation). Commercial participants have a $50 fee and business branding is allowed. You may download a parade application at TempletonRotary.com or pick one up at the TCSD Office or the Templeton Chamber of Commerce.
Road closures, parking and shuttle bus:
On the day of the parade, Main Street and the parade route will be closed without exception at 8:30 a.m. The Templeton Rotary Club is providing shuttle bus transportation from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. from parking lots on North Main as well as the Vineyard Lot (across 101).
When the parade route is closed at 8:30 a.m., only Old County Road will remain open to access downtown Templeton. When parking areas are full, “parking full” signs will be posted along every street. After 9 p.m. only parking areas North and South of Templeton will be accessible by car.
Handicapped parking, restrooms:
Handicapped Parking will be available at the Presbyterian Church. There will also be a Handicap Accessible restroom placed at that location. This year there will be additional porta-potties for our attendees. We desire to be a good neighbor. Unless you are engaged in actual business, please avoid using the restrooms of local businesses.
Due to a dog chasing a parade horse at our event last year, we are now required to alert attendees that all dogs must be on leash.
Templeton Rotary will be selling All American Rootbeer Floats around the parade route. They will be serving from John Deere Tractors covering each side of the parade route. Please ensure that your children are safe and keep them far from the street, the parade participants and all cross traffic. Note that the Rotary is responsible for any and all parade route refreshments.
Templeton Chamber is looking for volunteers to help with our 4th of July Celebration in the park. The chamber has a booth that pours Bloody Marys, Mimosas, Beer and Wine from 7am-3pm, during the pancake breakfast, parade and park celebration. They are looking for volunteers to help with three hour shifts: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (this shift includes clean-up). Please call the chamber at (805) 434-1789 to sign up.
