Law Estate Wines hosts black label release dinner

Law estate winery

–“A good time was had by all” is an understatement while describing Law Estate Winery’s first “Black Label Release Dinner” held at the winery this past March 3 and 4.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a glass of Law’s 2016 Rose, then escorted upstairs to the winery’s comfortable tasting room. Warmly welcomed by the Law “family,” the cocktail hour was spent mingling, making new friends, while enjoying an assortment of delectable appetizers. Through the entire evening, Don and Susie Law, owners, Oliver Esparham (general manager), Scott Hawley (winemaker) and the entire Law staff circulated throughout, making each guest feel welcome as an integral part of the Law extended family.

The evenings’ menu was created and prepared by executive Chef Jeffrey Scott. Specializing in vineyard events, Scott focuses on enticing food and wine pairings. Following the reception hour the gathering moved downstairs to the elegant barrel room, set with mood lighting and emulating the ultimate definition of style and class; the evening’s dinner began, and what a dinner it was!

Guests were treated to a first course of Porcini Mushroom Bisque, melted leeks en brioche, dried wild blueberries and chive oil, accompanied by Law’s 2013 “The Nines,” a 100-percent grenache which recently received a 97 rating by Wine Advocate Magazine.

Following the savory starter, oak grilled California Duck Breast, with toasted pearl couscous, fennel confit, hen of the woods mushrooms, and pomegranate gastrique was served, paired with the initial release of Law’s 2013 Prima, a 100-percent mourvedre (96 Wine Advocate).

The third course was an aromatic and mouthwatering six hour braised prime beef short rib, with truffle polenta gratin, glazed spinach, heirloom carrots, and syrah bordelaise, perfectly harmonized with Law’s newly released 2013 First Tracks, a delicious Bordeaux blend.

Capping off the feast was a selection of artisan sheep’s milk cheese, accompanies by bacon jam and spiced cherries. Law’s 2013 Sagacious, a seamless blend of grenache, mourvedre and syrah (94-Wine advocate) was a perfect finish to the memorable meal.

Don and Susie Law, along with the entire Law “family” couldn’t have been more hospitable and enthusiastic in hosting this “thank you dinner” for the loyal enthusiasts of Law wines. The place, the setting, the food and wine all radiated class and elegance, showcasing excellent wine, food and people and the type of personal friendly personality that has infused the Paso Robles Wine Country over the past many years, propelling the area into a premier wine, food and hospitality destination.

To sum up the evening’s food, fun and festivities in a single word, I can only say: Superlative! In every aspect possible.
