Less Than 8 Cattle Company, a bucking bull ranch in Paso Robles, holds the 2024 American Bucking Bull Inc. Classic World Champion title with its bull, 321 King Tut. The competition, held in early October in Las Vegas, awarded a total cash earning of $110,000.

“King Tut was the regular season leader going into the finals at Vegas,” said Less Than 8 Cattle Company owner Scott McMillan. “When dealing with a live animal, things can go wrong. We didn’t do anything different, but there were a lot of moving parts in order for the bull to be successful…He was able to buck well and thus received a high score from the judges.”

King Tut competed against 39 other bulls in the four-year-old bull classic division. The top 12 scorers in the first round advanced to the second round, with King Tut earning 90.64 points in round one and 91.20 in round two, which McMillan called “very difficult to accomplish.”

McMillan praised King Tut’s agility, saying that “321 King Tut is a very special bull. He’s long-legged and extremely athletic. His movements are calculated and cat-like. Tut is very smart and will change directions when bucking in order to get the rider off his back…King Tut is a very cool bull for which we are extremely grateful and we are blessed to have him in our lives.”

Other 2024 competitions that King Tut participated in included the Professional Bull Riders Wrangler Long Live Cowboys Classic in Sacramento, Professional Bull Riders Little Rock, and Express Ranches Professional Bull Riders Tulsa. McMillan plans for King Tut to compete in 2025.

Training includes running around in a playpen, where he enjoys bellowing at the top of the sandpile, and head-shaking in the sand to build endurance and strength.

Established in 2017, Less Than 8 Cattle Company breeds and trains bucking bulls, with a focus on genetics and young bull development.

“We truly enjoy the genetics part of breeding. It’s fascinating. Deciding which bulls and cows to put together based on pedigree is definitely a science,” said McMillan. “In addition to the breeding, the training and development of young bulls is crucial.”
