Obituary of Donald Roy Scantlin, 74

In the care of Chapel of the Roses & Chapel of the Roses Cemetery
– With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald (Don) R. Scantlin, 74, of Paso Robles, California, on Oct. 8, 2024. Don died in his home after a long battle with lung disease; and is finally resting peacefully.
Don was born Sept. 26, 1950, in Paso Robles, to Herbal and Hildegarde Scantlin. He was one of ten children.
Don was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, and later worked as a heavy equipment operator for the federal government, at Fort Hunter Liggett, California. He married in 1974, and he and his wife Debbie had two daughters and five grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, card games with friends and family, bingo, Bearcat football, dirt track racing, and was always thrilled to share a good (or not-so-good) joke. He also enjoyed the time he spent as a member of the Moose Lodge in Paso Robles, and the Lion’s Club in San Miguel.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Debbie, and his sister Cheryl; and is survived by his two daughters, Sherry (Jeremy) Hayes and Alisa (Jim) Rady, his grandchildren, (Ty, Holly, and Grant Hayes; and Ian Gomez and Elora Rady), eight of his siblings, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held for family and loved ones at the Willow Creek Mennonite Cemetery on Nov. 9, 2024, at 10 a.m.; and will be followed by a celebration of life at the San Miguel Lion’s Club at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anybody interested in making a donation, do so in Donald Scantlin’s name, to the Mennonite Church in Paso Robles at 2343 Park Street, Paso Robles, CA 93446.
