Aug. 8, 1946 – Oct. 23, 2024
Paso Robles, California
– Marian Riha McLinn made her transition on Oct. 23, 2024, after a courageous fight with a lengthy illness. With the help of her amazing caregivers and Hospice, she was able to remain at her home and passed peacefully with her husband and sister by her side.
Marian was born in San Luis Obispo on August 8, 1946, to Leonard and Dorothy McLinn. She spent her early childhood years with her family in an apartment above what is now Michael’s Optical. The roof of the building became her “backyard.”
In college she studied early childhood education, earning her master’s degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She entered a career in teaching, finishing up at Georgia Brown School in Paso Robles as a second-grade bilingual instructor. She was passionate about her work and it paid off with a teacher of the year nomination.
Outside of school, Marian was an award-winning costumer working with the Paso Robles Pioneer Players, the Pacific Repertory Opera (now called SLO Opera), and the San Luis Obispo Mardi Gras Krewe of Sybarites.
Marian also enjoyed propagating roses, becoming proficient at turning cuttings into beautiful rose bushes.
In 1988 she met Charles Riha and the two were married in 1990. They were a perfect match and over the course of 34 years enjoyed the proverbial “marriage made in heaven”.
Marian had a sweetness that endeared all who met her and her smile could light up a room. As her husband I can attest that she was the light of my life. She will be missed.
