Obituary of Shirley Denise Piña, 72

    Shirley Denise Piña.

    Nov. 24, 1952 – March 18, 2025

    – Shirley Denise Piña, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at the age of 72. Shirley was born on November 24, 1952, to Harold E. Brown and Mildred F. Schroeder, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her sister, Janice (Brown) Newton, and brother, Gary Brown.

Shirley is survived by her devoted husband, David Piña, and her children: Jill (Vierra) Smith, Bret Vierra, Eric Piña, and Kyle Piña. She also leaves behind her stepson, Cory Piña, daughters-in-law Sandra Frost, Holley Piña, Savannah Piña, and Debbie Piña, and son-in-law, Jeff Smith. Shirley’s legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Justin Smith, Jenna Smith, Cheyenne Piña, Sadie Vierra, Brody Piña, Brock Piña, Flint Piña, and Blair Piña, who were the true joy of her life.

Shirley was known for her sweet disposition, and she touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Her love for nature was reflected in her long walks, especially those along the beach, where she found peace and joy in collecting beautiful rocks. She and Dave enjoyed traveling around the United States, especially to South Dakota and Mississippi. She had a gift for turning simple moments into memories, whether enjoying a glass of wine with friends or reading her favorite books. A true plant lover, Shirley found joy in propagating plants from the gardens of her friends. Her happiest moments were always when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, who adored her. She made each of them feel like they were the center of her world.

Shirley’s gentle spirit, her deep love for her family, and her passion for the little joys in life will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter.
