School board seats new superintendent, discusses bus transportation issues

–Dr. Curt Dubost joined the board members at the dais for the first time at last night’s school board meeting.

The school board received a sobering report on bus transportation. There’s a profound shortage of bus drivers, so the district is exploring ways of recruiting drivers. Additionally, the cost of bus transportation is inspiring school officials to look at ways to reduce the cost or charge students for riding the school bus. Dubost says the cost of bus transportation should not adversely impact the general fund.

The board delayed a decision on a proposal to consolidate San Miguel and Paso Robles School Districts. Dubost proposed the consolidation as a cost savings for both districts. Dubost previously served as San Miguel School District Superintendent. He said the Coast Union School District has a similar arrangement with Cayucos School District. Members from each district’s boards met recently to discuss the consolidation. That proposal was deferred until the next board meeting.
