17 WWII vets making honor flight to Washington, DC
On Tuesday, May 13, 17 World War II Veterans, 16 men and 1 woman, with an average age of 93 along with a compliment of guardians will leave San Luis Obispo Regional Airport to visit their memorials in Washington D.C. The Veterans will depart at 6:30 a.m. and will return on May 15. As always, members of the local American Legion Posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts, Vietnam Veterans of America and Patriot Guard Riders will be on hand for the flag lines at the sendoff and return. Families of the Veterans and guardians as well as the general public are welcome to attend.
This is the first flight organized solely by the newly formed Honor Flight Central Coast California. The cost of the flights, meals, lodging and transportation for the Veterans were paid by generous donation from Central Coast individuals, private organizations and businesses. Guardians paid their own expenses. The flights are on U.S. Airways, who is a generous supporter of the Honor Flight program.
If you know a World War II Veteran who would like to make the trip, wish to donate to this worthy cause or want to be a guardian, go to HonorFlightCCC.org and complete the on line fillable application and either email it to HonorflightCCC.org or mail it to Honor Flight CCC, P.O. Box 1750, Paso Robles, CA 93441. For questions contact Honor Flight CCC Chairperson Bear McGill at (805)610-4012.
