–Spay Day 2016 was held on Feb. 28 at two local veterinary clinics: El Camino Veterinary Hospital in Atascadero, and the North County Animal Hospital in Paso Robles. Staff and volunteers from the North County Humane Society assisted at both locations. Overall 120 cats were spayed or neutered in one day.

World Spay Day is held every year in February. In the SLO North County, local vets provide low cost spay/neuter surgery for both pets with owners and feral cats which have been trapped. Vets, technicians and shelter staff volunteer their time to make this day possible. The event was coordinated by North County Paws Cause who arranged dozens of volunteers to assist at the clinics.

NCHS staff who participated include Mary Golden, executive director, Sherry Chapman, operations manager, and Ronny Cyr, Rachelle Hiser and Brandy Blair from the NCHS cat care staff. NCHS Board of Directors members Martha Pedersen, Terry Miron helped check cats in and out at the clinics. Other NCHS volunteers included Sandy Rakestraw, Julie Dawes and Tom Lott.
