Submitted by the San Luis Obispo Police Department

–The San Luis Obispo Police Department would like to thank the overwhelming majority of our community members, particularly our student population who made smart and responsible decisions on St. Patrick’s Day. Staffing was added March 16 and continued through the 17 to monitor the celebrations and keep our community safe.

On Sunday, officers did have one incident involving three men from San Luis Obispo who got into a verbal argument with bar staff in the 700 block of Higuera. A short time later, after one of the men was arrested for being drunk in public, the other two individuals began fighting with officers. As a result of that fight, one officer was knocked unconscious as they struggled to place the two remaining suspects into handcuffs. The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated, released, and is expected to make a full recovery.
