6th-grade students will be returning to in-person instruction, school district reports

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Superintendent Curt Dubost announced on Wednesday that 6th-grade students will be returning to in-person instruction March 6. Read his letter below:

We are very pleased to announce that our 6th grade students will be returning to in-person instruction beginning March 9th on the hybrid schedule (attached). In alignment with this return to school and given that our County is still in the purple tier, we will follow guidelines for schools as defined by the California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control. This includes the requirement that all students wear masks, maintain distancing, and practice sanitization throughout the school day.

At both Lewis and Flamson middle schools, students will attend three classes each day for cohort A or B (Periods 1, 3, 5 OR Periods 2, 4, 6) with eleven-minute passing periods between classes. During that time, classrooms will be sanitized and students can take a break in the quad or common areas. Students can remove their masks to eat a snack during that time but must continue to maintain physical distancing from others and put the mask back on when finished eating.

PRJUSD is asking all parents/guardians to complete a daily health screening for their child using the Parent Square app each day before attending school. In collaboration with the State and local health departments, our schools will continue to follow guidance around the isolation and quarantine of students and/or staff who demonstrate symptoms of COVID 19.

Because of the master schedule and complexity of having some combination classes with sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, it is important to note that ALL seventh and eighth graders are staying in distance learning but will also shift to the hybrid schedule (attached) on March 8th.

We are the first local district to return 6th grade under the new regulations and appreciate, as we know you do as well, the full cooperation of our teachers and support staff in making this happen so quickly.

Thank you for your patience and continued support during these trying, unprecedented times. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your site principals at:
Flamson Middle School, Mr. Tim Vincent (805) 769-1400
Lewis Middle School, Mr. Kurt Payne at (805) 769-1450

While we are most enthusiastic and eager about the return of our students to in-person learning, we are committed to doing so safely which requires a full compliance with mask wearing and all the other safety precautions. We appreciate your patience, support, and partnership with our schools and district.

Sincerely,

Dr. Curt Dubost
Superintendent
