7-week closure of the Shandon Roadside Rest Area begins Sept. 18

–The widening of Highway 46 East from McMillan Canyon Road to Lucy Brown Road near Shandon will result in a 7-week closure of the Shandon Roadside Rest Area beginning Monday, Sept. 18 until Friday Nov. 3.

This closure is necessary so that Caltrans can resurface the parking areas of this facility and perform roadwork related to the widening project nearest the rest area.

Motorists traveling in both directions on Hwy. 46 East are currently using what will become the ultimate eastbound lanes upon project completion. This traffic switch which began earlier this summer was in preparation for construction to proceed at the Shandon Rest Area.

The contractor for this $47 million project is Brosamer & Wall of Walnut Creek. It is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2018.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.

For traffic updates on other state highways in San Luis Obispo County, motorists can call Caltrans District 5 Public Affairs at (805) 549-3318 or can visit the District 5 website at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/road_information.htm
